| Introduction | Pasteurella multocida (PM) is a Gram negative bacterium that causes Pasteurellosis in humans and agricultural animals. It is a non-motile bacterium with a spherical shape, and like Staphylococcus aureus in humans, it can inhabit the upper respiratory tract of various animals without causing disease. Human infections result in lymphangitis, pneumonia, fever, nausea, and sepsis. In cattle the bacterium causes bovine respiratory disease (BRD), fowl cholera in chickens and turkeys, and pneumonia in sheep and goats. |
