Secondary Antibodies are used to bind to the primary antibody to detect, sort or purify the antigen. Secondary antibodies' Fab domain attaches to the Fc domain of the primary antibody which only varies between animals, so there is no need to label many different types of secondary antibodies for a variety of different primary antibodies.
