Environmental and Sustainability Statement

Introduction

Abbexa is an international company headquartered in Cambridge (UK), with further locations in Houston (USA) and Leiden (NL). We are a supplier of biological tools for the life science, pharmaceutical development and biotechnology sectors. We provide the scientific community with primary antibodies, secondary antibodies, proteins, ELISA kits and enzymes as well as other kits and tools for use in research.

As a biotechnology company working to supply laboratories for the advancement of research and science, we are keen to ensure that we keep our environmental impact as low as possible. We believe responsible sourcing and provision of goods and services allows us to continue on our path to sustainable growth.

This statement is made pursuant to the Sustainable Development Goals by the United Nations.

Our Policies and Training

All our employees are required to read and comply with the company's Environmental and Sustainability Policy document and Waste Management Policy document.

All our employees have a responsibility for implementing the Environmental and Sustainability Policy document in their areas of control and are encouraged to submit ideas and comments to help improve sustainable growth.

Our commitment to Sustainability for 2025

The reduce our impact, we will:

1. Reduce CO2 footprint from business-related transport and energy consumption

  • Encouraging bulk shipments of 2 or more orders together
  • Reducing national and international travel
  • Using energy-efficient equipment (computers, lighting, fridges, freezers, etc.)
  • Encouraging switching off equipment when not in use
  • Using PIR controlled lighting wherever possible and encourage switching off lighting when not in use
  • Ensuring equipment, such as dishwashers and autoclaves, are full before initialising
  • Using energy from solar panels firstly before using grid provided power
  • Reporting annual electricity and gas consumption at management review

2. Reduce waste

  • Reducing use of paper by double sided printing
  • Reusing packaging material where possible and recycle any packaging material which isn't used
  • Encouraging online invoicing

3. Reduce water and food waste

  • Using water efficient taps and toilet flushers
  • Encouraging people to serve and use only what they need

4. Ensuring sustainable, efficient and responsible procurement, direct activities and supply of all goods and services

  • Encouraging minimalistic quantity as well as volume of packaging whilst continuing to ensure product integrity, quality and viability
  • Investigating the use of electronic datasheets and manuals for products with a view to implement by 2026
  • Streamlining production and dispatching processes by communicating customer needs to ensure adequate stocks and optimal deliveries
