Introduction | Claudin 2 (CLDN2) is a member of the claudin family; transmembrane proteins form tight junctions between cells and form channels between cells to aid paracellular transport. CLDN2 is primarily expressed in kidney and bladder epithelial cells, where it is used to transfer sodium ions between cells. Mouse double knockouts for CLDN2 were reported to have higher urinary sodium chloride concentrations and slight changes to intestinal structure. |
