| Introduction | Dengue Virus (DV) is a +ssRNA virus from the Flaviviridae family. It has three capsid proteins and seven non-structural proteins encoded on its 11 kb genome. The virus is found predominantly in humans and is transmitted person-to-person via mosquitos. DV infections typically resolve themselves within a week, with symptoms including fever, rash, and myalgia. In some cases hemorrhagic fever may occur, where fluid from the vasculature leaks into the abdominal cavity and gastrointestinal tract. Treatment for these cases consists of supportive care, and cases are often prevented by vaccination and mosquito population control. |
