| Introduction | Mas-related G-protein coupled receptor member X2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the MRGPRX2 gene. MRGPRX2 recognises and binds small molecules containing a cyclized tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ), such as non-steroidal neuromuscular blocking drugs (NMBDs), including tubocurarine and atracurium. Activation in response to these compounds results in mast cell degranulation with subsequent pseudo-allergic reactions, characterised by histamine release, inflammation and airway contraction. |
