| Introduction | Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma Coactivator 1-Alpha (PPARGC1A) is a protein that associates with either PPARG or thyroid hormone receptor (TR) to increase their transcriptional activity. PPARGC1A is involved in the transcription of both nuclear and mitochondrial genes, with functions related to metabolism and muscle development. PPARGC1A KO mice appear phenotypically normal but have various metabolic disorders and reduced lifespans. Deficiency in PPARGC1A has been shown to contribute to mitochondriopathies. |
