| Introduction | Poliovirus Receptor Related Protein 1 (PVRL1, also known as CD111, and Nectin 1, gene name NECTIN1, formerly known as Herpesvirus Entry Mediator C, HveC) is a cellular adhesion molecule and a member of the immunoglobulin family of proteins. It forms linkages between epithelial cells and at neural synapses, typically interacting with PVRL3 (NECTIN3) and PVRL4 (NECTIN4). PVRL1 is used by some viruses (notably polio and herpes viruses) to enter cells, and mutations in the NECTIN1 gene can result in cleft palate. |
