Insulin (INS) is a double-stranded polypeptide hormone secreted by islet beta cells. It is the only known hormone in the body that reduces blood sugar and simultaneously promotes glycogen, fat, and protein synthesis. Transferrin is an indispensable component in body fluids. It is not only involved in iron transport and metabolism, respiration, cell proliferation and immune system regulation, but also can regulate iron ion balance and energy balance. It also has antibacterial functions. Sodium Selenite is a cofactor that provides glutathione peroxidase and other proteins and is used as an antioxidant in culture. Insulin-Transferrin-Selenium-Sodium Pyruvate is formulated with Earle balanced salt solution (EBSS).
