Ionomycin is a small molecule from Streptomyces conglobatus which can act as a Ca2+ ionophore. It is provided as a colorless wax. (Note: vial may appear empty.) In Human neutrophils, Ionomycin can induce a rise in cytosolic Ca 2+ from cytosolic Ca2+ stores and Ca2+ influx . It can activate and prime 2 mM and 20-200 nM Neutrophil NADPH Oxidase, respectively. It can also downregulate beta-catenin/TCF signaling in a colon cancer cell line by suppressing TCF binding to it's DNA-binding site. In Rat hepa-toma cells, sub-lethal Ionomycin cam initiate the stress response by activating SAPK/JNK and HSF/HSE, leading to upregulation of HSP70 biosynthesis.
