0.9% Normal Saline is commonly used in physiological experiments to equal osmotic pressure in humans and animals.

Different animals need specific saline concentrations for in vitro use, reflecting their unique osmolality (fluid balance). Mammals typically use 0.9% (isotonic to human blood), birds around 0.75%, and amphibians closer to 0.65%, because their blood salt levels differ. This prevents cells from shrinking or swelling in culture media or during fluid therapy.
