Penicillin-Streptomycin-Amphotericin B Solution

Penicillin-Streptomycin-Amphotericin B Solution is used to prevent bacterial and fungal contamination in vitro. Penicillin interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis, particularly Gram-positive bacteria, while Streptomycin binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis particularly in Gram-negative bacteria. Amphotericin B is an antifungal agent, causing increased membrane permeability and damage along with disruption of normal metabolism. It is also bacteriostatic.
